dublit "First Time" Contest

Deadline:

  • All entries must be posted to dublit.com's "First Time" contest group by midnight, PST on 15 June 2008.

Prizes:

  • 1st Prize includes $300 cash grant and the opportunity to have the story presented at a live reading in San Francisco. The winning story will also be considered for publication in an upcoming print anthology.
  • 2nd Prize includes a $100 cash grant, a subscription to Watchword Press and a feature on the dublit homepage and newsletter.
  • 3rd Prize includes a $50 cash grant, a subscription to Opium Magazine and a feature on the dublit homepage.

Cost:

  • Regular entry fee per submission is $5, payable via paypal or credit card.



Formatting/content:

  • Entries must be original works of fiction or non-fiction by the contest participant, uploaded in both audio and text formats.
  • Entries must incorporate the theme of "First time," and be less than 10 minutes long (audio).
    • Example "First time" topics include: first night in Spain, first crush, first sexual encounter, first time I watched Cinemax late at night, first time I stole something, first car, first bikini wax, first time on stage, first day on the job, first Colecovision, first fender-bender, first out of body experience, etc. etc. etc...
  • Entries must adhere to dublit Terms of Use (the legal stuff which protects both you and us).

How to enter:

  • Sign up for a dublit account here. If you are already a member, skip.
  • Complete entry fee payment by starting here.
  • You will be automatically entered into the "First Time Contest Group."
  • Once you are a conest group member, you may post your audioshort entry to the group anytime before the contest closes.



Judging:

  • Finalists will be selected by popular opinion via dublit.com. Be sure to share your entries with your colleagues!
  • Highest ranking entries will then be judged by notable professional editors to include Liz Lisle, editor of Watchword Press.
